Deprecating Some Categories

Hello everyone!

From time to time it's a good idea to take a step back and look at how the websites are categorized.

We have some categories that aren't used very frequently, and sometimes make it more confusing for people to find what they want. A good example of this is the Cartoon category. Most of the Cartoon category is animated TV Shows that aren't anime. So it means TV Shows are in 3 different categories depending on whether they are anime, animated but not anime, or a different type of tv show.

Anime is a force to be reckoned with on our site, so it makes sense to have a dedicated place for it. But non-anime isn't quite the same. So we are going to make it simpler for users and non-anime animated tv shows are going in the TV Show category.

There are some other categories that are almost never used, and their content can fit in some more popular categories. The full current list of categories being deprecated is:

  • ¬†Cartoon
  • CGI
  • Multi-Monitor
  • Pattern

Most of Cartoon is going to end up in TV Show. Most CGI and Pattern will end up in Abstract and Artistic. Multi-Monitor will go in the Category - Sub Category that makes sense for the individual image. We now have the by_resolution page and a really good cropping system, so separating out Multi Monitor doesn't make as much sense anymore.

Let me know if you have any questions!
